SoluStaff is actively recruiting for a Director of Clinical Systems for a healthcare system in central / southern New York state.   The Director of Clinical Systems is primarily responsible for the selection, implementation, project management, development and support of all Electronic Health Record (EHR) Systems as well as the portfolio of clinical applications that feed all the EHRs.  This role will provide direction and manage staff associated with the various EHR systems in place as well as providing strategic direction and innovation toward future solutions.  In addition to being accountable to direct line management, this position will be accountable to and take direction from executive leadership and governance committees that govern the implementation and adoption of clinical applications. Must possess a thorough understanding of clinical applications and be able to apply technology to solve problems and enhance the patient experience. 


  • Institutes, organized, maintains and ensures adequate and accurate applications for acute and ambulatory clinical applications.
  • Knowledgeable in all present and planned clinical applications installed or to be installed.
  • Provides the organization an expertise in clinical applications.
  • Functions as a liaison between clinical staff and information technology staff.
  • Oversees and controls the teams that will provide program management, project management, release management, and change management for all clinical applications
  • Oversees the team that will be responsible for providing software application support, resolving issues, in addition to providing excellent customer service support to our clients.
  • Responsible for the daily support of clinical application customers with technical issues, including identification, resolution, escalation, referral and follow up.
  • Instills in the clinical application teams a commitment to improve patient care and safety and to support the work flows of healthcare workers.
  • Establishes metrics/goals for all clinical applications.
  • Interfaces/interacts directly with clinical application vendors as required.
  • Helps prepare documentation for software applications and all ancillary products as needed.
  • Ensures all software and systems are being utilized and meet overall department / organization goals.
  • Ensures compliance with all regulatory and security requirements associated with system implementation and ongoing support.
  • Ensures system support clinical quality, patient safety, and institutional efficiency.
  • Assists in preparing documentation of departmental policies and procedures.
  • Reviews and approves user setups in accordance with enterprise security guidelines.
  • Interacts extensively with and builds strong relationships with vendors, hospital leadership and other IT leaders.
  • Develops, leads, and coaches direct reports to provide positive customer service both internally and externally.
  • Monitor and provide follow-up on all customer satisfaction surveys that fall below threshold within area of focus and for systems assigned.
  • Is familiar with and demonstrates Quality in Action principles, and participates in the process as appropriate.


  • Bachelors’ degree in Computer Science or related field, RN Preferred; Relevant experience may be considered as a substitute. EHR certifications are highly preferred.
  • 5+ years of IT experience in a healthcare environment
  • 3+ years of Leadership experience managing projects and teams
  • 5+ years of experience working with an integrated Electronic Health Record system
  • Knowledge/experience with medical facility operations & Electronic Health Records.
  • Able to work alone as well as with team(s) of employees.
  • Can work different shifts to accommodate end user/system needs.
  • Likes to work in a changing environment, with new challenges.
  • Self-starter, with the history of taking leadership positions.
  • Knowledge of ambulatory/acute care environments and workflow processes
  • Skills in Microsoft Project, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Ability to work in a complex and matrixed team environment; experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Ability to resolve conflict and negotiate compromise solutions where necessary
  • Ability to provide sound and reliable judgment, take initiative, and accomplish tasks with minimal supervision in complex situations.
  • Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills.
  • Highly self-motivated, self-directed, and attentive to detail.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, and to set priorities, schedule, and meet deadlines
